What is a Diabetes Symptom?

Diabetes is a disease where the body cannot control the digestive processes properly. It is generally considered incurable. The main feature is the body’s ability to produce insulin – or more to the point for diabetics its inability to produce the right amounts of insulin.

Insulin is a hormone that is needed for the proper processing of the energy contained in the food that we eat. Diabetes develops when your body does not produce enough insulin or use the insulin it is producing properly. Most people will not know in the early days that they have diabetes as it comes on quite slowly. They might feel a bit different but not put it down to diabetes.

The 3 types of Diabetes

Most people know about Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes but there is a third type called gestational diabetes. This occurs in a small number of women during their pregnancy. This type of diabetes usually disappears after the baby is born. If a woman has had gestational diabetes then she will need to watch for future symptoms later on in life as this is an indicator for type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The baby will also be at higher risk of developing it as it grows up.

You need to know what diabetes signs to watch out for, so that you can be quicker to start dealing with the problem. If you ignore the symptoms they will get worse and you will end up with a worse case of diabetes. It will also take longer bring under control.

Diabetes Symptom 1 - Fatigue

One diabetes symptom that is commonly experienced at the onset of the condition is fatigue. The trouble is that most people would say they are tired due to the pressures of 21st century living. Fatigue however takes it to another level. The majority of people who develop diabetes notice that they are much more tired than usual and feeling very drowsy, and so this is one of the symptoms that you want to watch out for.

Diabetes Symptom 2 – Weight Loss

If you start losing weight for no apparent reason then this is a clear diabetes symptom. You would think that losing weight is good for you and it is but if the weight loss happens without any change of eating habits then you need to check it out with your doctor.
